Jacksonville, FL – March 25, 2024 – Edward Waters University (EWU) proudly announces its upcoming Founder’s Day Convocation Celebration, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at 11:00 am at Milne Auditorium. This event marks a significant occasion for the University community, as it gathers to honor its rich history, values, and the remarkable individuals who contribute to its legacy.

Founder’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of unity and purpose at Edward Waters University. The objective of Founder’s Day is to bring everyone together – faculty, students, the administration, staff, alumni, and friends of the university to celebrate our common purposes and renew our sense of community.

This year’s celebration promises to be particularly memorable, with distinguished EWU alumnus Gustavo Guzman (’21) gracing the event as the keynote speaker. Guzman’s recent recognition as the 2024 Vystar Duval County Teacher of the Year at the prestigious 33rd annual EDDY Awards highlights his exemplary contributions to the field of education. As an alumnus who embodies the values of Edward Waters University, Guzman’s address is anticipated to inspire and resonate deeply with attendees.

Guzman’s journey from an EWU student and athlete to an acclaimed educator mirrors the transformative impact that the university has on its graduates. His dedication to excellence and service exemplifies the principles upon which Edward Waters University was founded, making him an ideal choice to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Founder’s Day Convocation.

The Founder’s Day Convocation Celebration will also feature events and activities designed to honor the university’s founders, reflect on its achievements, and reaffirm its commitment to academic excellence and community engagement. Attendees can look forward to engaging discussions, performances, and opportunities to reconnect with fellow members of the EWU community.

“Founder’s Day holds a special significance for the Edward Waters University community, as it allows us to reflect on our past, celebrate our present, and envision our future. As we gather to honor our founders and the principles they instilled, we are reminded of the enduring values that guide us. This year’s celebration is particularly meaningful as we welcome back esteemed alumnus Gustavo Guzman as our keynote speaker, showcasing the profound impact of an Edward Waters University education.
