Dr. Oswald P. Bronson, the 27th President of Edward Waters College passed away on Sunday, February 10 at the age of 91.

Dr. Bronson’s leadership at EWC was grounded in the “The Double E Principle: Excellence and Ethics”. His genuine concern for the growth of EWC, and commitment to the mission of the college, enabled him to bring unprecedented support to the institution.

During his tenure private, corporate and governmental support at Edward Waters grew significantly. Under his leadership, EWC received funding from the R&R Grant (Access Retention and Graduation Grant) at $3.1 million, the Student Support Services (TRIO Grant) at $1.4 million, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund Grant at $132,000, and the Dual Engineering Degree Program Grant from the Department of Defense (Army) at $1.8 million.

Prior to being President at EWC, Dr. Bronson served as President of Bethune-Cookman for 29 years – from March 18, 1975 until 2004 when he was named president emeritus. An ordained United Methodist minister, Bronson graduated from Bethune-Cookman in 1950 and also earned a bachelor of divinity degree from Gammon Theological Seminary. He received a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1965.
