Program Philosophy

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program is designed to foster academic excellence, ethical financial judgment, analytical thinking, and professional readiness in an increasingly complex global economic environment. The program emphasizes critical reasoning, precision in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, technological proficiency, and the practical application of accounting principles across areas such as auditing, taxation, managerial accounting, and financial analysis. Through rigorous coursework, experiential learning opportunities, student engagement, and participation in professional organizations, students are prepared to become detail-oriented, ethically grounded, and career-ready accounting professionals who can confidently navigate the evolving demands of the financial and business landscape.

The International Accreditation Council accredits the Business Degree Program at EWU for the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) for Business Education (IACBE). The Department offers Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degrees in six areas of concentrations: Accounting, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, International Finance, and Global Trade, Organizational Management, and Healthcare Management.

Admission Requirements for Accounting Program

To pursue a program leading to a major in Business Administration, a student must meet the following criteria.

Minimum GPA

Must have at least 2.00 GPA

Programs Completed

Must have C or higher grade on the following General Education courses:

SPC 2608 – Public Speaking or COM 2000 Introduction to Communications
MAC 1105 – College Algebra
FIN 2100 – Personal Finance or GEB 1001 – Introduction to Business
CGS 2060 – Introduction to Computers

Transfer Students

Transfer students are instructed to contact the Chairman of the Department before completing the required application to receive appropriate evaluations and credits from other institutions. Usually, credit is granted if the course contents are similar, and a grade of ‘C’ or better was received.

Must have Grades

Students must earn a ‘C’ or better in certain General Education courses to satisfy the major in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program. The courses include:

ENC 1101 – English Composition I
ENC 1102 – English Composition II
SPC 2608 – Public Speaking or COM 2000 Introduction to Communications
MAC 1105 – College Algebra
MGF 2106 – Finite Math

Note: In addition to the 38 credit hours required for the General Education, you must take an additional six credit hours of a foreign language as part of your program requirement, if you did not complete your foreign language requirement in High School.

BUSINESS STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The Business Student Association is a strong business student activity group focused on serving business students’ needs throughout their pursuit of academic excellence. The organization helps business students achieve efficiency and success, at both academic and professional levels.

Purpose:

Organize Business Administration students in a recognizable forum.
Develop career awareness of various business occupations.
Expose the business students to practical workshops and interactions with various corporations.
Provide the students with knowledge of subject content and leadership skills necessary for successful mastery of Business-related courses.
Establish tutorial sessions for business students through cooperative learning.
Enhance relationships with other student organizations.
Enhance identification with business-oriented students.

Mission:

The Edward Waters University Business Student Association strives to establish a link to student learning by providing a forum focused on leadership, networking, education, community awareness and professionalism.

Mission:

The mission of Sigma Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship
and accomplishment among students of business, management and
administration, and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal
and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable
service to humankind. Sigma Beta Delta was established to honor students
who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and
colleges with regional accreditation.

Lifetime Membership:

Membership in Sigma Beta Delta is the highest national recognition a business student can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter. To be eligible for membership, a business student must rank in the top 20 percent of the junior, senior or graduate class and be invited to membership by the faculty officers.
